Chronic Disease: Is disease that persists over a long period of time. Chronic disease can hinder independence and the heath of people with disabilities, as it may create additional activity limitations.
In January 2020, Harvard University published one observational study “Healthy lifestyle and life expectancy free of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes: prospective cohort study”. This study research shows how many extra years can produce a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk for chronic disease. Reviewing this article and compare with my own experience, I decided to write this essay to show people my thoughts on this subject.
For many years, family doctors and health organizations told us about the importance of acquiring healthy habits. Our body needs to create balance between activities we do frequently and the food we eat. Some diseases can be prevented if we follow the instructions and introduce these habits in our lifestyle. I can demonstrate in three statements, how important is to change habits and how you create a Healthy Lifestyle.
Creating habits and have one healthy lifestyle is difficult when you don’t know what it does and the cost if you don’t have a good health. First, according with the study every person has genetic issues and can be exposed to risk but some of these risks can be reduced if we have a healthy diet and we do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise every day. To have a healthy lifestyle in other words means small changes you can introduce in your life and these small changes reduces the risk of chronic disease such as: Cancer, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes.
Second, many people ask how they can create habits and try to maintained a healthy appetite? In my personal experience, I can say and show a real example, how effective and impacted a healthy lifestyle changes your habits. In my case, my father and my grandfather died for the same reason “diabetes – type 2”. So, I decided since I has 17 years old not to consume sugar drinks, not to eat sugar and start to exercise everyday. These small changes in my lifestyle reduced the risk of diabetes. Now, I’m a mature person and my glycemic exams and endocrinology results are normal. I don’t have diabetes and I modified these factors of risk from genetics in my family.
Third, when the people try to follow a diet or exercise for short time, they can be exhausted because they are looking for immediate results. However, to create a healthy lifestyle is more than following instructions how you can eat healthy or exercise if you want to see results in a long term. You have to build a strong personality and be persistent. If you want to be a fit person, you will have to work every day to build this lifestyle.
In conclusion, to change habits and create a healthy lifestyle required small but significant changes in your habits and your priorities. Finally, you can create a strong personality and you modify your point of view about your responsibility for your health. You can create your own rules and enjoy eating healthy food. If you are conscious, you can modify standards and family risk. You can create the discipline to exercise every day and enjoy a better quality of life and guarantee free extra years in life.
